FAQs

A non-retirement benefit plan audit is an independent review of employee welfare benefit plans, such as health, dental, vision, life insurance, disability, or VEBA plans, to confirm compliance with ERISA and Department of Labor requirements.

In general, large employee benefit plans with 100 or more participants may require an annual ERISA audit as part of their Form 5500 filing obligations. Special rules can apply depending on plan structure and participant counts.

We perform audits for a wide range of non-retirement employee benefit plans, including health and welfare plans, self-funded medical plans, VEBA trusts, life insurance plans, disability plans, and multi-benefit arrangements.

Health and welfare plan audits often involve multiple vendors, claims administrators, insurance carriers, eligibility rules, and funding arrangements. Self-funded plans may also require additional testing around claims and participant activity.

Yes. We regularly perform non-retirement benefit plan audits for self-funded and partially self-funded health and welfare plans and communicate directly with administrators and service providers throughout the audit process.

The Department of Labor has identified higher deficiency rates among firms without significant ERISA audit experience. Working with a specialized employee benefit plan audit firm helps reduce compliance risk, delays, and audit issues.

Preparation should begin well before your Form 5500 deadline. Organizing plan documents, participant data, claims reports, and vendor information early helps streamline the audit and reduce last-minute delays.

In addition to non-retirement benefit plan audits, we provide Defined Contribution Plan Audits, Defined Benefit Plan Audits, ESOP Audits, 11-K filings, and audits for a wide range of employee benefit plans.
